An Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) is an area extending up to 200 nautical miles from a coastal state’s baseline. Within the EEZ, the coastal state has exclusive rights to explore and exploit both living and non-living resources in the water column, on the seabed, and beneath the seabed.
