Is Maker’s Mark still a family-owned business?

While Maker’s Mark has a history of being a family-owned business, it is no longer directly owned by the Samuels family. The Samuels family, specifically Bill Samuels Sr., founded Maker’s Mark in 1953. However, in 1981, the brand was sold to Hiram Walker & Sons, a subsidiary of Allied Lyons. Subsequently, in 2005, Fortune Brands (now Beam Suntory) acquired Maker’s Mark. Thus, Maker’s Mark is currently owned by Beam Suntory, Inc., a subsidiary of Suntory Holdings.
